Introduced by Senator Gary Peters on June 5th, 2024, the Protect Infant Formula From Contamination Act is a bill meant to prevent the recurrence of infant formula shortages. It is a fairly recent act that requires infant formula manufacturers to take extra precautionary measures to ensure that all products sold are safe to consume. These measures include mandatory testing to rule out contaminants, notifying the FDA of any positive contaminate results, and discussing what must be done to properly dispose of these contaminants. Peters made the decision to introduce this bill in a conscious effort to lower the risk of infant deaths and illnesses.
