We stress the importance of affordable childcare all the time, but rarely do we discuss the cost of delivering a baby. The Peterson-Kaiser Family Foundation estimated an average of nearly $19,000 spent on delivery—including postpartum care. Even with insurance, mothers can expect to pay up to $8,000! Though these prices are to be expected—especially for hospital bills in the U.S.—paying this much to care for both mothers and newborns can be harder on lower income houses. One of the main ways to tackle this issue is by convincing the government to expand maternity coverage. If you would like to help ease the burden of these costs, please reach out to your local Congressmen to help encourage the expansion of maternity coverage.
